Once Upon a Story - Hickory Dickory Dock - Seams To Be Sew Row Along

I am super excited to participate in the My Happy Place Row Along put on by Seams to be Sew! Thanks so much to Marian for putting this on and letting me participate!

Once Upon a Story Row Along -Seams to be Sew

This year all the rows are different shapes and sizes and they all have to do with nursery rhymes and fairy tales!

Here it is! My big reveal! Hickory Dickory Dock!

Hickory Dickory Dock

When I first heard that the theme for this row along was nursery rhymes, Hickory Dickory Dock was one of the first to come to mind. It was definitely one of my favorites from my childhood. I also thought that it would be fun to design and quilt a clock and mouse!

If you have never heard of it before, here is the first verse of the rhyme by Mother Goose.

Hickory, dickory, dock,
The mouse ran up the clock;
The clock struck one,
And down he run,
Hickory, dickory, dock.

Mouse from Hickory Dickory Dock

This is pretty easy to make. It is broken into pieces and pieced together.  The mouse is appliqued on. The clock hands and mouse tail are drawn on but can very easily be embroidered or appliqued. Choose which ever method suits you.

Star Block for Hickory Dickory Dock

This is how it looks after I turned it into a table runner.

I added a border that is the same color as the blue in the star block. Then I quilted in the ditch along the seams.

  • What a great block! I taught my children and grandchildren Hickory Dickory Dock and am itching to get the chance to teach it to my great grandchildren. So far they are too young, but soon., thank you for being part of the hop!

  • Great HD Clock block. I like the use of the sawtooth star in the clock.

  • I learned a slightly different version when I was young. I learned a funny version later:

    Hickory Dickory Dock,
    Three mice ran up the clock.
    The clock struck one;
    The other two escaped with minor injuries.

  • A fun block.
