For the month of February, my quilt guild was supposed to learn about a quilt block called the "Dandy." Sadly, we had to cancel our meeting because of a snow storm. But we will catch up next month. But snow can't stop the internet!
For a 12 inch finished block (12.5 inch unfinished), you will need to cut the following:
White - 1 of 4 1/2 inch square, 2 of 5 inch squares, 4 of 3 inch squares, 4 of 2 1/2 inch x 4 1/2 inch rectangles
Light Color - 4 of 3 inch squares
Dark Color - 2 of 5 inch squares
Start by making the Half Square Triangles.
To do this, take a light square and a dark square, and place them right sides together. Draw a line on the light square, diagonally, corner to corner.
Sew on both sides of the line, a scant 1/4 inch away from the line. Then cut on the line. Press to the dark side.
This creates two Half Square Triangles.
Using the 3 inch white and light squares, make eight HSTs. Trim to 2 1/2 inches.
Using the 5 inch white and dark squares, make four HSTs. Trim to 4 1/2 inches.
Create the side blocks by sewing together two light colored HSTs and the white rectangle, as shown in the picture.
Layout the blocks, and sew them together and press to create the "Dandy" block.
