Its starting to get cooler outside. I am ready for Fall!
This mini quilt or mug rug is the perfect for the season. It is quick and easy, and it looks harder than it is!
To make this quilt I started with 6 strips of fabric that measured 2 1/2 inches by 15 inches each. I picked out some fun Fall colors for this mini quilt.
Then I sorted them by value. (A quick way to do this is to look at them through the camera on your phone with a gray scale filter.)
Then I sewed the strips together in that order.
I cut them apart into 2 1/2 inch strips. There should be 6 of them.
Then I laid them out so the colors went opposite ways and that they were offset by 1/2 inch on each side.
Here is a closer look of the offset strip ends.
I sewed them together. It created this cool look with the light green going down the center.
After I layered it together with a backing and batting, I machine quilted it by lining up the edge of my walking foot with the seams. I stitched down both sides of each seam.
Here it is after quilting.
And here it is completely finished.
The back shows the straight line quilting really well.
I also made a second one with the same method, except it only has 4 fabrics and they are not sorted by value.
It reminds me of apple picking season.
I hope you enjoy making these fun and simple quilts!
Have a great Fall!
Have fun quilting!
What a pretty little quilt. I had to look at it a couple times to see how it was constructed. It seems to be a very versatile pattern. Thank you for the tutorial.
Great idea with the offset strips! Thanks for sharing your process.
